Facebook App for Photo Book Print Launched

The white-label application enables members of the social network to create and order photo books from their favorite photo services provider, which are generated directly from a Facebook photo album.

According to photo industry surveys, most of the more than 800 million Facebook members use the social network to store and share digital photos with family members, friends and co-workers, using the platform’s “Photo Album” feature. The custom brandable app developed by Ecce Terram now clears the way for large retailers and photo services to generate new photo book orders from a so far underdeveloped source.

The software facilitates complete solutions from photo ordering to processing in commercial labs, and also supports standard software installations, as well as customized for large photo processing centers.

Ecce Terram positions its photo book app for Facebook as a logical addition to the company’s order channel solutions for desktop, online, mobile and kiosk platforms. For large retail chains with the Photo2Lab infrastructure already in place, configuration and deployment of the new app to work with their existing order processing system can be completed within a matter of days.

"You don't want to bet your company's photo business on developer solutions that support outdated, or esoteric proprietary platforms," says Mr. Simon. "If you do that - within 18 months, you are likely to reach less than 50 percent of the online users your company should reach."

The rapid recent shift in the online and mobile technology field has many large providers of photo processing and product services, like pharmacy chains and large electronic retailers, worried about how to protect their existing investments, while being able to develop new product lines. Industry analysts familiar with the photo services market like Frank Baillargeon, founder and president of f/22 Consulting, agree with Ecce Terram's assessment: that the safest and most cost-efficient solutions will have to include full support for the HTML5 standard.

Cambridge. 8 Nov. 2011. - The advantages of true photographic paper are evident at first glance: bright colours and very high detail reproduced on considerably stronger paper. As lab processed photographic paper is exposed without printing grids, printing dots will not be found, not even with a magnifying glass. This leads to a more balanced colour reproduction and sharper detail. That way, anyone can create their own photographic calendars in professional print quality with bright colours, even as a one off print.

The online photo service FotoInsight adds a new product category to its range of photo print products: Poster prints on real photographic paper are processed in gallery quality and mounted using a self-adhesive foil onto aluminium composite panel. The quality panel used is the ‘Alu-Dibond’ brand which is often used in professional applications like exhibitions and store design due its quality, dimensional stability and low weight.

FotoInsight launches its hi-gloss photobooks today. The new glossy finish is a product innovation producing more intense colours and crisp pictures. High gloss photobooks are treated with a protective varnish.

Cambridge. 14 March 2011. - FotoInsight broadens its range of photo books with shine. Unlike some glossy photobooks simply produced on glossy paper, FotoInsight’s new hi-gloss is achieved by applying a protective coating to the photo book pages. In an additional step at the end of the print process a PU varnish will be heat-treated, achieving an even, durable hi-gloss finish, producing brilliant, shiny colours.

The individual design and order process follows the same familiar steps as already known from FotoInsight’s Designer software. The high gloss finish is available in the glossy photobook formats Panorama and XL. The extra cost for the hi-gloss finish on the 26 page A4 Panorama photo book is £6.20.

The Environmentally Friendly Choice

Hi-gloss photo books are available in the formats Large Panorama (about A4) and XL (about 12” x 12”) with 26 to 154 pages (in increments of 8 pages). Every FotoInsight photobook is printed on paper produced under the guidelines for sustainable forestry.

The leading players in the imaging industry's fastest growing segment - photo books - are getting ready to showcase their latest developments. FotoInsight announces a major upgrade to its "Designer" software for CEWE PHOTO BOOKS.

Cologne, 21/09/2010. - To provide space where the favourite photographs can shine, photo book services like FotoInsight are constantly improving their software and their range. The latest FotoInsight Designer software upgrade incorporates many suggestions from a SirValuse Usability study and features apart from an enhanced navigation many new tools.

Automatic photo book size conversion

Until recently, when designing a CEWE PHOTO BOOK, it could only be ordered in the same size. The new FotoInsight Designer can now convert CEWE PHOTO BOOK layouts from one size into another of the same shape. For example, from a square Photo Book XL in size 12" x 12" (30 x 30 cm), users can now get a smaller square size 8" x 8" (20 x 20 cm) or a larger square size 16" x 16" (40 x 40 cm), adjusted automatically based on the original layout. Editing Assistant now recognizes human faces

The software upgrade will be shown at Photokina and will be launched as a free download from October 2010. Its Layout Assistant has been improved and can now recognise faces. That way the automatic layout assistant can now avoid covering faces on photographs. Users will also be able to create custom CEWE PHOTO BOOK Layout-Styles, for the Assistant to use when creating automatic photo book layouts.

Clicking on the "layout" tab allows you to choose the number of images and text fields per page and how they should be arranged. During the design process sets of pages can be added as required. The page layout can be created, chosen or changed for each individual page in the book at any stage. To pick a layout, simply click in the "storyboard" on the double page to be changed and the layout section to pick the desired layout. The program will do the rest.

By now the photos have been chosen and the book format has been defined. Clicking on the "thumbnails" section on the "apply" button, the Printing-1 software imports the images into the photo book. With FotoInsight Designer, the "PHOTO BOOK Assistant" is activated by clicking on its icon (bottom left), dragging the thumbnails for the book form the preview into the selection box and clicking "Create Photo Book". Voila! The result can be seen in edit mode on the "Storyboard" or displayed as something closer to the real book in the "Preview".

Of course, both applications also allow to place photos individually at any location or angle in the photo book instead of having them laid-out automatically by the software. This works simply through "drag & drop", i.e. clicking on the desired picture in the "thumbnails section"; hold the left mouse button and then drag the image to the appropriate place in the photo book. Once all images have been positioned in the photo book, it is a good idea to check all the pages to ensure no layered picture is covering any important elements of a background picture and that all images have sufficient resolution for their size. If an image has a barely adequate picture quality, a yellow warning light flashes on the screen. If the picture quality is insufficient a red warning will appear; making the image smaller usually resolves the problem.

Finishing touches - image editing

As a finishing touch, images can be improved. In the FotoInsight Designer software any image can be edited through a double click and in the application from Printing-1 image editing tools can be reached through the toolbar. The applications from FotoInsight and Printing-1 offer under icons like 'page', 'new image' 'text', 'processing', 'layout adaption', 'rotation', 'frame options', 'zooming', optimization etc and includes numerous design, text and image processing tools. E.g. there is a tool to rotate images freely or in increments and another one to add text, but make sure that you select an appropriate font size. Images can also be converted from colour to black and white.

A wedding photobook becomes most interesting taking into account a few design tips: A photo book is basically about telling the "story of your wedding" through photographs. For this it is best to create chronological chapters, like preparations, civil wedding, church wedding, the party etc. Each chapter might be introduced by an overarching main picture, for example, a photo of the church for the chapter, "church wedding".

Once happy with the design of the wedding book, it is easy to order it online. Clicking on the 'order' icon in the 'main menu bar' starts the checkout process in which the address details and print data will be transmitted to a photo lab. The wedding book will be professionally printed, bound and delivered by post within a few days.

But photo labs can only print calendars, once the images have been uploaded. In the days before Christmas calendar production is running at full capacity. Photographic calendars can be ordered by uploading 13 digital images online. Today FotoInsight launches a new version of FotoInsight Designer with new lines of photo albums on photographic paper, new features like fading frames and festive templates and the addition of Linux and Mac OS versions.

Cambridge, 20 August 2009. - Europe's most popular photo book software is now also available for Linux and Mac OS. Against an ever growing number of photo book services, FotoInsight is increasing its technological lead with the introduction of version 4.5 of FotoInsight Designer. The application is available as a free download on the photo service's website and it can create a 130 page photo book lay-out in under three minutes. The new release of the order software adds photo albums processed on thick, lustre finish photographic paper pages. The new photo paper album styles ranging from 26 to 82 pages (in steps of eight pages) are only available in the FotoInsight Designer software.

In FotoInsight's new Photo Paper Album each page lies flat

FotoInsight states that the book bulge in the new photo paper albums disappear, as the pages lay flat when the book is opened 180 degrees wide. A new binding process is being used for the album pages, which are thicker than pages in CEWE Photobooks. This allows the pages in an open photo paper album to lay flat, rather than bowing or arching up towards the spine. Flat pages make it easier to view images which spread across a double page. FotoInsight's Managing Director Klaas Brumann states: "The new printed photo album's thicker pages provide a premium feel over traditional coffee table style photo books. The expression Mass Customisation is oxymoron, joining the opposites "Mass Production" and "Customisation", which has lately become fashionable. lexican 3: The Software for Knowledge Workers

Individuals and teams use lexiCan to manage information and knowledge for projects, in business management, research and idea gathering. The developer is also introducing a new read only client lexiCan Reader, which allows users to publish content such as guides, manuals, references, support data bases, knowledge bases within a network with one click, making publishing as easy as editing. The software remains simple, no special training is required.

Similar to a personal Wikipedia, lexiCan allows users to build articles using texts, pictures, tables, links to websites and files. Using the title as a reference, articles can be accessed in seconds even in voluminous collections, overcoming the daily burden of clicking through folder hierarchies as done in Windows Explorer. Unlike Wikipedia, lexiCan purely works as a desktop application based on Microsoft .NET framework, enabling user convenience, such as setting links per drag and drop or dropping emails from Outlook into a description. lexiCan features full text search that includes embedded files. The developer points at several other intuitive retrieval features, like an automated view on pictures, embedded files and tags. Articles can have multiple tags which lexiCan displays as a list or clout. The article tree can be structured in the application's Outline section.

FotoInsight Opens the Internet Deco Shop in France and Ireland

Online poster and canvas services will usually only print the customer’s image. FotoInsight is launching its new “Deco Shop”, where a matching, natural wood frame can be combined with a mounted canvas or laminated poster. Large format prints from own digital photographs will then be delivered mounted and framed, ready to decorate the wall at home or in an office.

Paris and Dublin. 24 June 2009. – The resolution of digital cameras is rising constantly. Many digital photographs could impress at home or in an office meeting room, when printed as a laminated poster or a stretched canvas in a floating frame. With the right image it makes a worthy present.

FotoInsight, a specialist serving amateur and professional photographers alike, prints canvases in different sizes from 20x30 cm (minimum resolution 800 x 1100 pixel) to 60x80 cm (2500 x 3300 pixel recommended). FotoInsight states that it uses man made optimised fibres and fade-resistant "archival" inks to guarantee longevity and brilliant colours. The hi-tech inks penetrate deep into the fabric and can therefore be printed and mounted over the edges of the wooden frame. Standardised sizes allow a largely automatic production process. NEW: Laminated and framed poster prints

Photo sharing from Flickr, Facebook, Picasa and geotagging site "locr" come to personal printed photo albums. Today FotoInsight launches a new version of FotoInsight Designer with new photo book formats and new features like fading frames and festive templates.

Cambridge, 17 March 2009. - Against an ever increasing number of photo book services, FotoInsight is increasing its technological lead with the introduction of version 4.5 of FotoInsight Designer, which is now also available for Linux and Mac. The ease at which photos can freely be inserted into the book or into templates now also extends to clipart, maps, text and images from photo sharing sites like Flickr as well as the geotagging site "locr" and Wikipedia GeoNames. The photo sharing sites become an online interface for photo book building with family and friends, as users can now complement their printed photo albums with additional pictures (e.g. the Eiffel Tower form a different angle) from photo sharing sites, straight from within the FotoInsight Designer software.

In addition, with just a mouse click pictures used in a photo calendar or photo book project in FotoInsight Designer 4.5 can be uploaded to the geotagging photo community "locr". The other way around, aerial shots and maps from the geotagging community will come handy for comprehensive information of the locality in a personal travel book. Version 2.0, available in March, 2009, will expand user guidance in several ways. “Get in touch with your customers”

With Version 4.6, ECCE TERRAM will present the latest version of its offline client., which includes support for new photo book products, for collages, photo gifts and other merchandise. Among other features, support for “multi-touch PCs” is also being introduced.

Multi touch has recently gained importance, as Microsoft Windows 7 introduces support for multi-touch; and many new PC systems, laptops and netbooks with multi-touch screens have been launched at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. Photo2lab solution's lead in innovation thus once again proves to be confirmed, because since autumn 2008 there has been work on multi-touch support, e.g., for the creation of photo books. Cambridge. 17 November 2008. -- To provide space in which the favourite photographs can shine, photo book services like FotoInsight Ltd are constantly improving their software and their range. So far, most books printed with own photographs are limited to less than 100 pages. With the upcoming version 4 of FotoInsight Designer its photo books can feature up to 130 pages for the first time. After introducing the Photo Book XL (12"x12" / 30x30cm) last year the software upgrade will add a new "Photo Book XXL" format (H12"x16" / H30xW42 cm) in stylish faux leather and with a traditional screw bound. In the new XXL format landscapes can be spread over 80 cm wide double pages. For this, FotoInsight is increasing the print resolution to 360 dpi.

The software upgrade announced for the UK Retail Imaging Show has finally been launched. The clever 'Assistant' in the FotoInsight Designer photo book software will then be able to design a 130 page extra large photo book in under three minutes, For this the application automatically lays out the pages with the chosen images and can put these in order of date, file name or event.

When designing a photobook page by page hundreds of templates in the free software help to position images. A "Help Grid" can be turned on in the application's editor window to provide optical guiding in positioning photographs and text. The size of the grid can be changed and the application can make pictures stick to the grid lines. An even finer positioning can be achieved by zooming into the editor.

Any picture can go without, with a standard or an individual frame to set the photo apart from the background or layered images. Text can be written on any part of any page or it can be copied & pasted from a word processor or other application. This ensures that names and dates can be recorded and the text of for example a wedding speech can live on for future generations.

Repeat Orders

Once the photo book of a holiday or party arrives everyone is cheering and many want their own copy. With the new release arrives what many regular FotoInsight customers have been asking for: the re-ordering option. During six weeks after an order a photo book can be re-ordered without having to upload the layout again. Photobooks ordered by the 16th of December should be delivered in time for Christmas.

After introducing the Photo Book XL (12"x12" / 30x30cm) last year the software upgrade will add a new "Photo Book XXL" format (H12"x16" / H30xW42 cm) in stylish faux leather and with a traditional screw bound. In the new XXL format landscapes can be spread over 80 cm wide double pages. For this, FotoInsight is increasing the print resolution to 360 dpi.

The software upgrade announced for Photokina shall be launched online on the 16th of October 2008. The clever Assistant in the FotoInsight Designer photo book software will then be able to design a 130 page extra large photo book in under three minutes, For this the application automatically lays out the pages with the chosen images and can put these in order of date, file name or event.

The new "Colour Sorting" tool will help when designing the book manually. The "Colour Sorting" tool in the upcoming FotoInsight Designer can put images in order of colour, helping to eliminate duplicates and to avoid the repetition of similar images. It is also a handy tool for an esthetically appealing design achieving the right contrasts between images. Another interesting addition to the upgrade is a new "Image Collage Tool", which can create a collage page of up to 199 images. The position of each individual image in the "Collage Tool" can be adjusted or changed, just as it can be done everywhere else in the photo calendar or book layouts. When designing a book page by page hundreds of templates in the free software help to position images. A "Help Grid" can be turned on in the application's editor window to provide optical guiding in positioning photographs and text. The size of the grid can be changed and the application can make pictures stick to the grid lines. An even finer positioning can be achieved by zooming into the editor.

Any picture can go without, with a standard or an individual frame to set it apart from the background or layered images. Text can be written on any part of any page or it can be copied & pasted from a word processor or other application. This ensures that names and dates can be recorded and the text of for example a wedding speech can live on for future generations.

Repeat Orders

Once the photobook of a holiday or party arrives everyone is cheering and many want their own copy. With the new release arrives what many regular FotoInsight customers have been asking for: the re-ordering option. During six weeks after an order a photo book can be re-ordered without having to upload the layout again.

Political Stock Market launched for the elections in New Zealand

The prediction market is based on the "Electronic Stock Market Technology" (ESM) developed by ECCE TERRAM. It is based on theses by Friedrich von Hayek, who in 1974 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. From Professor von Hayek's findings it derives that more accurate prediction of future events can be made if people trade shares about them with the opportunity to obtain a profit. Online photo processing, where real photographic paper is used for prints, is nowadays as popular as traditional photo labs used be in the 1990's. The routes to the lab are becoming increasingly varied and flexible. Apart from the existing routes via the Internet using Windows PC, Mac or Linux software, a Point of Sale Terminal or online, ECCE TERRAM is now introducing its first "Photo2lab Client for iPhone" at the PMA 2008 in Las Vegas.

January, 29th, 2008. -- ECCE TERRAM has already announced new versions of its offline software clients and its middleware for the PMA 2008 in Las Vegas, and communicated its expansion to New Zealand and Australia. Today the internet solutions specialist is presenting a new global highlight.

During summer 2007 Apple's launch of a completely new smartphone, called the iphone received much public attention. With 4 million units sold during the first 200 days it is the most successful mobile phone launch. Steve Jobs, the legendary Apple boss announced a software developer's kit last October for third party applications.

This gave ECCE TERRAM the starting shot for the development of a photo print order client for the iPhone. A Trend Setting Product

Right from the onset it was clear that the iPhone users define which application can be sensibly marketed. Special Services for Production and Delivery

The iPhone's photo printing range will kick off with a mini-photobook (10x15cm, 16 pages) and a post card service. The user selects photos, creates a postcard with text and images in the editing tool, moves the images with one finger, rotates and zooms pictures with two fingers and does a double click to browse. The application can pick the postcard's recipients postal address straight from the contact list.

ECCE TERRAM's "Photo2lab" services production partners print the post cards and post them directly to the recipient - or the photo book to the buyer or to a delivery address for a present.

These solutions allow to indicate image optimization for individual image files and make re-ordering prints easier. In addition, the ECCE Photo Suite offline client will integrate the HDX4 Photo Manager. It serves to optimise the pictures per mouse click before uploading them to the Internet, in order to bring out the best of the photographs. The ECCE TERRAM Internet Services company will go to Las Vegas to present its Photo2lab Software Suite on the main photo trade fair PMA, which will take place from 31 January to 2 February 2008. Integrated into the Photo2lab Software Suite is the HDX4 Photo Manager of HDX4 GmbH. This is a HDX4 Photo SDK for professional picture optimisation.

Dortmund. Jan 15th, 2008. - HDX4 GmbH has specialised in the development of software all about the topics of burning and multimedia. A suitable tool for digital photography is the SDK HDX4 Photo Manager, which other companies can license to upgrade their own software with new functions. SDK includes the two modules HDX4 Natural Enhancement and HDX4 Upscaling, both proprietary developments from the technology laboratories of HDX4 GmbH.

A distinctive feature of the HDX4-modules is that they can help to turn any snapshot into a really professional photograph – it only takes a mouse click. The new version of the Printing-1 photo book software provides new layouts and calendar templates. The demanding photographer or designer on Windows or Apple PCs can now create professionally printed photo book calendars.

London, 29 Nov 2007 – Photo books are the creative gift option this Season. More and more often, when the camera or mobile phone cam shutter snaps, images do not get printed. Instead, photo enthusiasts create digital photo albums to get them professionally printed and bound. To display the best snaps around the year, Printing-1 offers now calendar templates in its photo book design software.

Photo Books are a popular present for friends and family because they combine style, quality and personal expression in each individual and unique book. With the new photobook calendars the online service is entering the also very popular gift category of personalised calendars, with the quality and platform independence (i.e. the photobook software runs on PC as well as on Apple Mac) associated with Printing-1. The new Cambridge recruitment start-up IBEX Resources Limited is presenting IBEX Logic, which it claims reduces the cost of the recruitment process. The company deals with vacancies predominantly from Technology companies throughout the United Kingdom

The largest photographic calendar is exclusive to the FotoInsight Pro software; the use of an offline ordering software client became necessary to ensure a safe upload of larger images to the lab. With the FotoInsight Pro photo calendar and photobook software comes a range of editing tools, which internet browser could not handle. Editing the calendar through a special software tool allows for example to freely position any number of images on a single page. This is useful when a event should be enhanced by scanned holiday memories, like entrance tickets, postcards or maps – these can now be integrated into a professionally printed photo calendar. The increase in design flexibility follows requests from customers, ordering personalised photo calendars year after year for friends and family.

The resolution of digital images is constantly increasing and professional laboratories now achieve super sharp prints in large formats. “With the improvements in digital cameras it started making sense to offer larger photo calendars”, says FotoInsight’s Managing Director Klaas Brumann and adds: “We do not limit the print area for images on the monthly calendar page. Photos can cover the whole page and the calendar template can be layered over images.”

The number of photos taken has been increasing sharply, with the share of those being printed dropping constantly. Only two months into the launch of the latest FotoInsight Pro Software the online photo service releases an upgrade for additional, larger photo book formats, classic covers and the new PictureLive DVD service. Cambridge, GB. 4 Oct. 2007. – Half of all households use digital cameras. A growing share of camera users take high resolution pictures which can be enlarged to poster size. While computers, mobile phones and cameras have a tendency to become ever more compact, the resolution (or number of pixels) of digital images is growing ever larger. In line with it grows the demand for large format prints. FotoInsight serves this trend with posters, canvas printing and the new XL photo books, in which pictures can extend across a 60cm / 24” wide double page spread.

FotoInsight now offers a range of 94 different photo book formats counted by cover, size and number of pages.
