Selected Christmas Gift Ideas – Which are Truly Unique

Christmas has become the feast of the gift trinity: Give, Take, Return
When during Advent the smell of cinnamon cookies reaches our nose, it becomes clear that it is time to think about Christmas presents. Giving is a way of expressing love, compassion and appreciation. Giving also makes a statement like "I love you" or "I am thinking of you".

Give time instead of money
"To find a good gift idea," says the sociologist Dr. Holger Schwaiger (Erlangen and Aberdeen), "you have to empathise with the other, and to feel their feelings and needs by constantly fine-tuning your understanding of the other’s personality. To perceive these signals, you usually have a full year’s time. If you do, you can forgo the lazy option of giving money." The style consultant Ann Green adds, "with a well-chosen gift, the recipient won’t think about the price. "

Cash makes a bad present
When we buy gifts, we remove the price tag, to make it clear, that friendship has no price. Gifts of money are the opposite,” so the sociologist Schwaiger, because “they give the social relationship an economic value.”
Photo Calendars are a popular gift at Christmas

Celebrate common experiences
If you have spent time with a person, you may want to preserve the memories of common experiences in a photo gift. With pictures of celebrations, holidays and other special events, you can make beautiful, personal photo books, photo calendars or Advent calendars - ideal gift ideas to celebrate the most cherished moments of the year.

If you have at least twelve images that you want to show throughout the course of a year, a wall calendar is a great option and can be created easily in just a few steps. You will find more hints & tips in the article Create a wall calendar.

For Advent, there are photo Advent calendars with own pictures and optionally filled with chocolate from Ferrero® or kinder® or "filled" – sugar free – with 24 pictures. In addition, some online services print "craft photo advent calendars for self-filling" with your individual image.

If you have more pictures - for example of a joint trip - it’s a good starting point to create a holiday photo album, to give as a present. The article "My holiday photo album - how to start?" provides practical tips and examples to help your photo book project succeed and to bring joy for many years to come.

A photo gift is the opposite of a money gift.
Well achieved pictures deserve a special place at home, for example as a large format print. Such enlargements work particularly well as a photo canvas print, a gallery poster or a multi-panel. The CEWE® photo poster and wall-art range expanded again this year, with the addition of the innovative Hexxas® system. Hexxas® are hexagonal photo tiles (18 x 15.6 cm or 27 x 23.4 cm in size) that can be arranged flexibly due to their magnetic suspension system.

Real gifts to unwrap, touch and see
Professionally managed web shops from A like Amazon® through F like FotoInsight® to Z like Zara® offer - at a supplement - a gift wrapping service. This ensures that the unwrapping helps to create a positive surprise. Only things that can be touched and felt are real presents!

Instagram at your fingertips: Art Prints "Square"
The Instagram-friendly trend of the year are square prints, bringing the colourful world of digitally recorded experiences into your home. They can be enhanced with frames and effects. As a box set, the square prints (with a 5 inch side length) are a great gift idea.

Art Prints "Retro" - reminding former Polaroids®
Retro prints are sets of quality prints on solid 300 g/m² paper in size 5”x4” (10.2 x 12.7 cm). Retro prints can be edited and decorated with frames and filters. In keeping with the vintage style of former Polaroids®, the print area is 9x9 cm (3 ½” square) in size and has a high-quality layer-effect vanish. As a set of 16, 24 or 32 prints in a pretty storage box, the Retro prints make a joyful surprise.

Your own picture as a fine art print
Decorative prints from own photographs make a very personal present. In its Art Prints range, FotoInsight offers high-quality prints on matt fine art paper in the sizes 13x18, 20x20 and 20x30 cm (approx. A4), starting from just £5.

A picture pairs game with your own pictures: the Photo Memo®
A great gift for the family is the personal Photo Memo®. To print a personalised picture-pairs-game with your own pictures is as easy as ordering prints online. An individual Photo Memo® game with 50 cards (25 pairs of pictures) costs only £12.99 at https://fotoinsight.co.uk/gifts/toys---games/picture-pairs-game.html. The picture pairs game is suitable for children from 4 years of age and is an entertaining, memory training game for the whole family.

Cinnamon, the Christmas spice
As mentioned earlier, the aroma of cinnamon is part of the Christmas season, just like the Christmas tree, candle light and gifts. Cinnamon invigorates the senses and stimulates our well-being, especially during the dark winter days. Cinnamon has a positive effect on the blood sugar level and can help to reduce belly fat and obesity. Since most households do not own a cinnamon grater, cinnamon is sold mostly in powder form. When ground, the Cinnamon cassia quickly loses many of its essential oils, its stimulating effect and part of its aroma. Maybe Christmas is a good opportunity to give a special cinnamon grater, so cinnamon can always be freshly grated to match the quality of rolled Ceylon cinnamon sticks. Cinnamon graters are available from Cinnamon Hill as a grater starter set, which includes one rod of Saigon and Ceylon cinnamon each from just £25 or €30. For more information on Cinnamon graters: https://iitm.be/CinnamonGrater

When well-being and friendship come to the fore, the expectations for gifts change. A list of Christmas gift ideas from various online providers are published in the article "Christmas gift? practical, useful and personal" by the style consultant Ann Green.

FotoInsight announces new "Designer v.4.6" Photo Book Software at Photokina.

Every other year in September representatives from the world of photography come together at Photokina in Cologne, for the world's most important photographic fair. The leading players in the imaging industry's fastest growing segment - photo books - are getting ready to showcase their latest developments. FotoInsight announces a major upgrade to its "Designer" software for CEWE PHOTO BOOKS.

Cologne, 21/09/2010. - To provide space where the favourite photographs can shine, photo book services like FotoInsight are constantly improving their software and their range. The latest FotoInsight Designer software upgrade incorporates many suggestions from a SirValuse Usability study and features apart from an enhanced navigation many new tools.

Automatic photo book size conversion
Until recently, when designing a CEWE PHOTO BOOK, it could only be ordered in the same size. The new FotoInsight Designer can now convert CEWE PHOTO BOOK layouts from one size into another of the same shape. For example, from a square Photo Book XL in size 12" x 12" (30 x 30 cm), users can now get a smaller square size 8" x 8" (20 x 20 cm) or a larger square size 16" x 16" (40 x 40 cm), adjusted automatically based on the original layout. The same can be done to photo books in portrait or panorama format.

The photo book editor in the new FotoInsight Designer software upgrade now saves (caches) changes automatically, so that progress made can't get lost during the design process. That is important, as photo books are getting ever larger and bigger. The upgrade features the large CEWE PHOTO BOOK XXL Panorama (42 x 30 cm) with a padded cover in real leather. For a stronger bind the large panorama pages are specially folded into the cover bind.

Editing Assistant now recognizes human faces

The software upgrade will be shown at Photokina and will be launched as a free download from October 2010. Its Layout Assistant has been improved and can now recognise faces. That way the automatic layout assistant can now avoid covering faces on photographs. Users will also be able to create custom CEWE PHOTO BOOK Layout-Styles, for the Assistant to use when creating automatic photo book layouts.

New photographic calendars, new features

For demanding photographers wanting to create large calendars FotoInsight is now adding the size A3 photo calendar also in panorama format. Photo calendars on real photographic paper can also be designed in FotoInsight Designer v.4.6. Real photographic paper developed in a professional photo lab guarantees brilliant colours and superior durability.
The colour schemes of the application's calendar templates received a make-over and the application can now also display bank holidays in photo calendars.

More photo gifts

The software upgrade also features the option to choose the pages in spiral-bound photo cover note pads (A5 and A4) with the option of lined or graph paper. In general FotoInsight is increasing the user's choice. For example it is now possible to give each greeting card in a set of greeting cards an individual design.

The Managing Director of FotoInsight Klaas Brumann comments: "The new photo calendars on photographic paper and the new CEWE PHOTO BOOK XXL Panorama provide an impressive environment to preserve the favourite pictures from holidays and events in shiny quality. Books can be accessed at any time. Unlike videos and images on digital media there will never be compatibility problems with future digital standards. With your FotoInsight Photo Book simply turn the pages and enjoy, now and in a hundred years."

FotoInsight's New Photo Paper Book Makes Book Bulge Disappear

Today FotoInsight launches a new version of FotoInsight Designer with new lines of photo albums on photographic paper, new features like fading frames and festive templates and the addition of Linux and Mac OS versions.

Cambridge, 20 August 2009. - Europe's most popular photo book software is now also available for Linux and Mac OS. Against an ever growing number of photo book services, FotoInsight is increasing its technological lead with the introduction of version 4.5 of FotoInsight Designer. The application is available as a free download on the photo service's website and it can create a 130 page photo book lay-out in under three minutes. The new release of the order software adds photo albums processed on thick, lustre finish photographic paper pages. The new photo paper album styles ranging from 26 to 82 pages (in steps of eight pages) are only available in the FotoInsight Designer software.

In FotoInsight's new Photo Paper Album each page lies flat

FotoInsight states that the book bulge in the new photo paper albums disappear, as the pages lay flat when the book is opened 180 degrees wide. A new binding process is being used for the album pages, which are thicker than pages in CEWE Photobooks. This allows the pages in an open photo paper album to lay flat, rather than bowing or arching up towards the spine. Flat pages make it easier to view images which spread across a double page. FotoInsight's Managing Director Klaas Brumann states: "The new printed photo album's thicker pages provide a premium feel over traditional coffee table style photo books. We expect the new photographic paper books to be popular with professional users and for wedding photo books!"

New Photo Albums on photographic paper:

- Photo Book Square (21 x 21 cm) from € 29.95 / £ 24.99.
- Photo Book Large landscape, (28 x 21 cm).
- Photo Book XL (30 x 30 cm)

Mac OS and Linux, too

Compatible with Windows XP, Linux and Mac operating system 10.5 Leopard and above, version 4.5 of the FotoInsight Designer software is now available to download from the FotoInsight website. The software upgrade sees greater functionality for editing, sorting and arranging photos, as well as for creating personalised photo gifts that preserve photographic memories.

Image layering and blend-in image masks

According to FotoInsight: "layering images in any order or position has been one of the outstanding features of its Designer software for photo books. With the new software upgrade a range of different shapes or blend-in image masks can be used as image frames. There are also plenty of new frames and clipart to decorate photo gifts for Christmas, school, wedding and other themes.

Back to school promotion.

FotoInsight offers photo gift products to equip children in the new school year with notepads, animal key chains, messenger bags, aluminium water bottles and other product with own photographs. The firm is backing up it's back to school promotion with a three for the price of two offer on spiral bound photo notepads. The voucher code is BACK2SCHOOL (valid until 31 August 2009).

19 November 2008

FotoInsight launches new "FotoInsight Designer v.4" photo book software.

Even Larger Books with own Photographs

The leading players in the imaging industry's fastest growing segment - Photo Books - are getting ready to showcase their latest developments. FotoInsight announces a upgrade to its "Designer" software and new, even larger Photo Books.

To provide space in which the favourite photographs can shine, photo book services like FotoInsight Ltd are constantly improving their software and their range. So far, most books printed with own photographs are limited to less than 100 pages. With the upcoming version 4 of FotoInsight Designer its photo books can feature up to 130 pages for the first time. After introducing the XL Photo Books (12"x12" / 30x30 cm) last year the software upgrade will add a new XXL Photobook format (H12"x16" / H30xW42 cm) in stylish faux leather and with a traditional screw bound. In the new XXL format landscapes can be spread over 80 cm wide double pages. For this, FotoInsight is increasing the print resolution to 360 dpi.

The software upgrade announced for the UK Retail Imaging Show has finally been launched. The clever 'Assistant' in the FotoInsight Designer photo book software will then be able to design a 130 page extra large photo book in under three minutes, For this the application automatically lays out the pages with the chosen images and can put these in order of date, file name or event.

When designing a photobook page by page hundreds of templates in the free software help to position images. A "Help Grid" can be turned on in the application's editor window to provide optical guiding in positioning photographs and text. The size of the grid can be changed and the application can make pictures stick to the grid lines. An even finer positioning can be achieved by zooming into the editor.

Any picture can go without, with a standard or an individual frame to set the photo apart from the background or layered images. Text can be written on any part of any page or it can be copied and pasted from a word processor or other application. This ensures that names and dates can be recorded and the text of for example a wedding speech can live on for future generations.

Repeat Orders

Once the photo book of a holiday or party arrives everyone is cheering and many want their own copy. With the new release arrives what many regular FotoInsight customers have been asking for: the re-ordering option. During six weeks after an order a photo book can be re-ordered without having to upload the layout again. Photobooks ordered by the 16th of December should be delivered in time for Christmas.

The Managing Director of FotoInsight Klaas Brumann comments: "The larger formats XL and the new XXL provide the space to preserve the favourite pictures from holidays and events in shiny quality. Books can be accessed at any time. Unlike videos and images on digital media there will never be compatibility problems with future digital standards. With your FotoInsight Photobook simply turn the pages and enjoy, now and in a hundred years."

TIPA 2008 award winning CEWE Photobook Software Launched in Spain and Italy

The Cambridge based Internet photo service is expanding its successful photo book range with software in Spanish and Italian. FotoInsight is outperforming the photo finishing market through product and service innovation as well as its aggressive international expansion.

Today, FotoInsight of Cambridge launched the award winning CEWE Photobook service in Italy, just one month after its successful launch in Spain. The expansion of the popular photo book concept is helped by winning this year's TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) best photo service award. TIPA voted the CEWE Photobooks at the self-titled the European ‘Oscar’ of the Photo and Imaging Industry, as the leading product in its hotly contested category, which has lend a new dynamism to the photo printing industry and offers the consumer an attractive option to preserve photographic memories.

The TIPA judges state “With its photobook concept, CEWE offers a complete solution for creating and ordering high quality photobooks across Europe. Digital photos can be combined with backgrounds, text and page design, and the photo book software is free of charge and offers intuitive handling ...”.

The FotoInsight Designer software for the CEWE photo book is intuitive and does not require specialist knowledge, making photo book design accesible across different levels of experience and languages . According to the vendor, the Layout Assistant in its “FotoInsight Designer” CEWE photobook software designs a coffee table style book with hundreds of images in under three minutes. Users with time and patience may enjoy designing their own printed photo album page by page or simply refine the Layout Assistant’s design with texts and repositioning the images.

FotoInsight offers a range of 94 different photo book formats counted by cover, size and number of pages. Its portfolio ranges from a pocket size photo booklet (from £5.99 plus p&p) through bound books in square format (8”x8” from £9.99) or A4 to the new XL photo books (12”x12”). All photobooks (square, A4 and XL) from FotoInsight are available with very durable channel bind in a linen cover or in a soft or hardcover where cover and spine can be edited freely with photos and text. All photo books are available in different sizes, from 26 to 98 pages (increasing in eight page steps).

Convenient and flexible

The creative freedom provided by the new FotoInsight Designer Software is not limited to photo books, but the same tools can be used for digital photo calendar design with a number of different sizes and templates and a virtually unlimited number of images per page, image layers, free positioning and flexible text tools. FotoInsight’s Managing Director Klaas Brumann states: “We launched the free Spanish photobook software a month ago and hundreds of photo books have already been created and printed through our Spanish service. We expect to help thousands of Italians to preserve their photographic memories in pristine colours, just like we do for our British customers.”

New: printing-1 photo books

The photo album is dead, long live the photo book. Free photo book software offered by online photographic services makes it easy and economical to create photo books in different formats, sizes and types of binding. Online services offer a range of options for individual lay-outs with own photographs. Professional print on hi-gloss paper provides coffee table style photo books. The latest offering comes from printing-1 and promises an even greater choice of photo book styles.

London, GB. 30. October 2006. – During the past year personal photo books have become one of the most popular photographic products and are about to replace the traditional photo album. Rarely has a product evolved as quickly as the photo book. The different suppliers compete with ever more flexible software for the top spot with the consumer. With the launch of its new Windows and MacOS photo book software printing-1 is claiming to take the concept a step further. According to printing-1 a durable, quality binding process is becoming more important, as increasingly big photo books are being ordered, containing often hundreds of images. The binding process used by printing-1 takes an extra day to prepare, but allows for large photo books with up to 144 pages and space for hundreds of images.

The new online photo service Printing-1 offers a range of photo books and scrapbooks, including small photo booklet, square photo books and A4 size books in different shapes and colours. Printing-1 photo books are offered in a range of three bindings methods (staple, spiral and book binding) with soft and hardcover. The smallest hardcover book bound is 36 pages, the largest contains up to 144 pages in hard or soft cover. Staple or spiral binding is available with 12 pages or more. Printing-1 photo book covers provide a range of colours and can be edited.

The Printing-1 Photo Book Software

According to Printing-1, during the software development special emphasis was put on ease of use and creative freedom. Images are not only fully scalable and can be positioned freely on any page, each frame can be defined individually. Also the page number feature can be switched on or off for individual pages in order not to spoil a beautiful full page image. Instead of limiting creativity through an automatic assistant the program provides templates to help positioning images after which they can still be adjust or moved. In general, the new photo book application entices creative experiments with the lay-out tools. Printing-1 is going down new paths: The program not only offers a choice of matt and glossy covers, it also allows to switch between binding types and book formats at any time.

Not only printed photo books, but also online photo book sharing

Individual photo books can be saved as separate projects. The photo books have to be uploaded to Printing-1's website first, before placing an order where they will be stored free of charge for up to two month. This allows users to invite friends to view their Printing-1 photo books online. So after for example a large party or wedding, friends and family can view and comment on the scrapbook project and ever order and pay for their own printed Memorbook, Printing-1 also provides savings when a photo book is ordered as a present and send directly to friends or family abroad (including the USA), using a separate delivery address.

Beyond the use of layout templates, each page can be edited freely. The editing tools include free scaling, rotating and positioning of photographs. A line around an image helps to set it against coloured backgrounds. Frames can be defined individually around each picture and images can also be printed frameless across a full page or even double page, providing the right format for landscapes and other photographs requiring a larger space. The printing-1 software also provides a tool to post-edit images individually. This allows giving images a degree of semi-transparency, an interesting effect on some overlapping images.

With digital photo books the many digital memories vanishing on ageing computer hard discs can finally see the light of day. The digital photo service Printing-1 delivers in the UK and most European countries and the USA within two weeks of ordering online. Ordering professionally printed photo books from own images is rapidly replacing the “stick-in” photo album.

Convenience and flexibility

Printing-1 offers a Windows and Mac OS compatible, online photo service for digital camera images, specialising in digital photo books and photo canvass printing. The hi-tech process used reduces the costs, allowing Printing-1 to offer photo booklets from £7.95.- (plus postage & packaging £4.90 (orders over £100 ship free). Different volume discounts are offered when ordering five or more of the same photo book.

Greenstreet break with tradition by introducing a revolution in scrapbook creation – a mess free, time saving fade-proof record of precious memories for print, for the web and which can even be viewed on your TV!

Cambridge. 1 November 2006. - In the age of the digital camera and camera phones we all snap away happily taking lots of pictures to remember events by. However generally these languish on computer hard drives and the personal memory fades as to who, why, where and what the pictures were about. Which is why in recent years scrapbooking has seen a revival. Greenstreet have combined the digital age with the rapidly growing interest in scrapbooking and taken this to the next step by creating Greenstreet’s Digital Scrapbook – bringing all kinds of new possibilities to the art - providing limitless supplies and making it easier and cheaper to capture moments in time and to share with friends and family.

Digital Scrapbook turns the PC into a powerful, time saving photo book tool which moves creativity beyond the limits of the traditional paper scrapbook.  Digital Scrapbook from Greenstreet lets the user tell a story – his or her way – using photos, text, images, calendars, diaries – even movie clips, music, narration and captions. Scrapbooking - overview

Although Scrapbooking has seen a resurgence in recent years it is a tradition which goes back centuries - as far back as the 17th Century when scrap books were known as common-place books or friendship albums. Even the famous Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) kept newspaper cuttings of his presidency in leather bound books of plain paper.

When the Kodak camera became available in the 1880’s people also started to include photographs into their scrapbooks and it became so popular that magazines were produced on how to scrapbook and what to include.

In modern times with the strong interest in family history, the distance between friends & family and modern technology - there has been a rise in the popularity of Scrapbooking. It’s not just about organising photos – that would just be a photo album – its about preserving memories by journaling, collecting and saving interesting items to go with the photos such as tickets, newspaper articles, cards, letters, postcards and so much more.

Scrapbooking is preserving your special memories for years to come.

Cambridge, September 2004. FotoInsight introduces a new photo software package called Home Photo Service Order Pro, resolving eight common problems of digital photography. FotoInsight is distributing free copies off its website for the first two month: www.fotoinsight.co.uk/pro

Digital photography is a fantastic invention and its popularity is rapidly overtaking traditional colour photography. Once you hold digital images on your hard disk these cause a series of new requirements and needs:

1.- Escape lack of hard disk space and high storage costs.

2.- Back-up photo collections onto CD-R.

3.- Cropping digital images.

4.- Image file conversion to jpeg or other formats.

5.- Quality prints at competitive prices as with traditional (analogue) photo processing (from 10p per print).

6.- Organising image collections and albums – find your images back.

7.- Creating a slide shows of your holiday pictures.

8.- Creativity: Printing calendars, frames, greeting cards.

FotoInsight's new “Order Pro photo software” resolves all of this and makes ordering prints online really easy, without the hassle of lost data, interrupted transmission etc.

It currently is free. FotoInsight is introducing the application with no time limit as a free download. But the free download introduction will last two month only, by then FotoInsight hopes to have received many recommendations and plans to start charging for the software as for any other image editing application. So hurry to get your free copy (Windows PC or Mac) from:
